Start of the Month Superdrug Haul

As it’s the beginning of a new month I had to stock up on my daily products like shampoo, conditioner etc so I popped into my local Superdrug to pick up a few essentials and ended up getting a few exciting bits as well!

Firstly the two things I actually went in for were shampoo and conditioner. I like to use the Aussie Mega Shampoo and Conditioner as it cleans the hair and does lead to build up of product which is great for me as when I straighten my hair I use heat protectants and anti frizz serums! They also smell sooo good which is a bonus!

I have been a fan of Nip + Fab for a while now and have been using their Glycolic Fix range for a while but never tried the cleanser, so when I saw it in store I decided now is the time to try it! I also saw the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Ultra Moisture razor and thought it would save so much time when it comes to shaving my legs, which will become a much more regular occurrence with the summer months approaching! I also hope it will give me super smooth legs and can’t wait to use it.

The SugarBaby Slim-ulate scrub that I picked up was a spur of the moment purchase as it was on the end of a shelf and looked interesting. I have never used this kind of scrub before but have always wanted and this one claims to help with dry skin and eczema which hopefully is true as I have quiet dry arms.

Now the most exciting things! When I walked into my local store I had no idea they had recently gotten an ELF stand. I have only tried ELF products that my friends own so as soon as I saw the stand I text my friend and asked her recommendations. She said I should definitely get the illuminating primer which ticked all the right boxes for me. I also picked up the eyeshadow blending brush as I just love a fluffy eye brush!

Also I’ve changed my Instagram and am using my original personal one instead of a separate one so you can follow me here!

Current Makeup Favourites

For today’s post I thought I would share my current makeup favourites, there are some brand new beauties and some golden oldies as well!!

This was the first Morphe palette that I owned and it is definitely one of my favourites. The Morphe 35K Eyeshadow Palette has a lovely variety of cool and warm tone browns as well as some really pretty blues which I have been using quite a lot recently. There is one blue shimmer shade in particular which I love for the inner part of the eyelid to give it a pop! The shadows are so blendable and stay on all day!

When Kylie Jenner released her Valentine collection I knew I needed the Head Over Heels Lip Kit. It is such a beautiful dark purpley-nude and I feel that it really suits my skin tone. (I’m sure all you pale girls know how hard it is to find a dark lipstick that doesn’t make you look like a ghost!) The formula is really comfortable on the lips and lasts for a really long time without drying your lips out! Luckily after it’s success, Head Over Heels has also been made a permanent part of her collection!

I recently went for a browse in T K Maxx and found this Too Faced Selfie Powder Palette for only £9.99! (It’s full price on the website is normally £32!) I must say I had never seen this product before but it definitely intrigued me. It is made up of 3 shades; Sunrise, Totally Toasted and Moon River. Sunrise is a yellow powder which is great for brighting under the eyes and Moon River is a really nice powder to wear under your highlight to make it pop. But I have to say that my favourite powder from this palette is the bronzer, Totally Toasted, it is such a beautiful warm toned bronzer that actually makes my skin look sun kissed and not orange or a dull brown!

When it comes to blusher I normally wear quite muted, matte, nude shades as I already have quiet red cheeks. But when I swatched this Sleek Rose Gold Blusher I fell in love with it! It is a pink blush with a slight shimmer but the thing that made me buy it is that the shimmer reflects gold which I thought looked so pretty! It applies really nicely and blends out well so you don’t end up with bright pink cheeks.

Last but definitely not least is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit that they have released with American beauty guru Nicole Guerriero. When I saw the pictures of this all over Instagram I was shocked at how beautiful it was. I tried to talk myself out of buying it but after a particularly bad week I decided to order it to cheer myself up. I am going to do a post all about the palette itself soon, which will include swatches and my full review!

What makeup bits have you been loving lately, let me know! I love discovering new products!

New Additions To My Skincare

I was recently browsing Beauty Bay and ended up looking at a brand I’ve seen a lot on Instagram and Twitter, Mario Badescu. They sell skincare that targets all types of skin issues from oiliness to acne as well as body skincare issues like dry elbows and bumpy skin. So I thought I would share what I got!

I have seen a lot of people raving about the Mario Badescu Facial Sprays and I love spray toners so I picked the Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater. I went for the bigger size and I’m so glad I did. This spray smells so nice and when I spray it on my face and hair it is so refreshing and my skin has felt so much better since I started using it!

I first saw the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion on Kylie Jenner’s snapchat a while ago and have been wanting to try it ever since. So seeing as I was already ordering the spray I thought I might as well order this as well. Luckily when it arrived a huge spot had just appeared on my chin so just before bed I popped some of the lotion on it. The next morning it was like the spot wasnt even there! There was still some redness but the huge bump on my face it was creating had completely disappeared, it’s like magic! The one thing I can imagine putting people off of this lotion is the smell as it is quite a strong chemical smell but once its on your face you hardly notice it!

Lastly I decided to order one of their face masks as I love trying new ones out. I went for the Special Mask for Oily Skin as I have been getting super oily skin the past few months. I have yet to try the mask out but as soon as I do I will post a mini review on Instagram! You can follow me here!

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer

I have been a big fan of the Urban Decay Naked Concealer for a while now, it’s amazing in all aspects apart from the price. It’s not exactly budget friendly, so I have been on the hunt for the perfect drugstore concealer. There have been a few strong contenders, the Revlon ColorStay springs to mind! But I think the winner is definitely the Bourjois Radiance Reveal!

This concealer is perfect for brighting the under eye area whilst covering pesky dark circles. It blends like a dream and is super pigmented so a little goes a long way. Once blended out it immediately has a dewy radiant finish. It’s like it reflects light and completely erases dark circles.

For only £7.99 this concealer works wonders and lasts all day. The packaging is so sleek and looks high end, with a frosted glass bottle and silver lid, it fits perfectly into your makeup bag as it isn’t to big as well!

The only downside is that it only comes in 3 shades, I wear the lightest of the 3. I am quite pale though. If you have a deeper skin tone you may struggle to find a match so hopefully they add my shades soon!

The concealer is available at Boots, Superdrug and Feelunique

How to Party-Proof Your Makeup

Over the Christmas period I went to a few parties and nights out and learnt some sure fire tricks to make your makeup last all evening! So I thought I would share them today…

Using a good primer

When making sure your makeup lasts, priming is essential. When priming my face my two favourites are the No7 Airbrush Away primer which is really creamy and thick so makes your skin a flat smooth surface, meaning your foundation blends easily! Another tip, to make the most of the primer and make sure you get every last bit is to decant the primer into a small pot. I always squeeze out as much as I can then cut the tube open and scoop the rest out! This also means you waste less and you only take as much as you need, theres no risk of squeezing out too much!

I always make sure I prime my eyelids too and the Urban Decay Primer Potion has never let me down! It not only helps my eyeshadow last but it makes the colour more vibrant.

Now I have to be honest when I first heard about baking I thought it was a bit gimmicky but when I actually tried it, it changed my life! I simply use a powder puff to apply the Rimmel Match Perfection Loose Powder under my eyes and over my nose then dust it away with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush and the Peaches and Cream Setting Powder which due to its white colour helps to brighten my under eye area!

I also use baking to enhance my contour, I use a triangular sponge and apply the Rimmel powder under my cheek bones then dust away with a fluffy brush.

Setting Spray (Not just for setting your face!)

This is kind of a no brainer but, using setting spray really does help as it keeps your whole face in place! I like to use the Urban Decay De-Slick Spray as it also helps to prevent my oily T Zone from making an appearance.

Setting spray can also be used to enhance shimmery/glittery eyeshadows! You simply spray the brush before applying the shadow and it looks a lot more shimmery!

Taking your Time

This sounds a bit weird but I always find that if I take my time with my makeup and make sure to blend everything properly and let things set/dry, that my makeup just sits better and doesn’t cake up!

How Double Cleansing Changed My Life

I’m going to start this post with a little confession…

During the last few months, I haven’t really been looking after my skin, at best I would take my makeup off with a wipe and then moisturise. As a result of this my skin was oily in places, dry in others and I had quite a few spots, it really started to affect my confidence. So I decided that I would do something about it and started to introduce toners, serums and oils back into my routine.

Then I started double cleansing and it literally changed my skin. After doing it just once my skin felt smoother, cleaner and looked much better! So I thought I would share what I use everyday that basically saved my skin.

The first product I use is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. Everyone and their mum has heard of this I’m sure and it really is just a great cleanser! The balm/cream texture moisturises while it cleans and it removes all the makeup from your face.

I then use Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel and lather it all over my face then rinse with a face cloth. This cleanser really helps regulate my oily skin and since using it the amount of spots on my face has definitely decreased!

I’ve also seen on Twitter and Instagram lately that Caroline Hirons has collaborated with Pixi to bring out a cleanser for the sole purpose of double cleansing and I am SO excited to get my hands on it!!

Adding Some Colour

As well as regular New Year’s Resolutions I also made some makeup resolutions this year, as I found that I just kept doing the same neutral/bronzey/brown eye look and I was getting bored of it! I kept seeing these beautiful, bright eye looks on Twitter and Instagram that used a variety of colours and tones and it made me want to try it out myself!

So just before new year I went to Boots and picked up a few items to inject some colour into my everyday makeup! Now I’m not saying that I’m suddenly going to go out with yellow lips and neon purple eyes but I’m going to add a little bit of colour to mix things up!

All of the items I picked up are from NYX and I feel that they are the best brand at the drugstore to get bright, outgoing colours from!

NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette – Brights

The first thing I picked up was the Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights. This has such a pretty array of colours that are exciting and a little bit scary at the same time! The shadows are SO pigmented and easy to blend and are a mixture of mattes and glittery shades.

NYX Vivid Bright Liquid Eyeliners

I also got some of the Vivid Bright Eyeliners in the shades Violet and Fire. Now having only used black liquid liner I was a bit apprehensive when buying these. I have yet to wear them out but have practised with them and the brush is perfect for getting a precise line and sharp angle and the colour dries matte and doesn’t budge!

I already posted one of my attempts at a colourful look on twitter so you can check that out here!

I will also be posting my more colourful looks on Instagram, you can follow me here!

Christmas Eve Pamper Essentials

My attempt at the 12 Days of Blogmas was an absolute fail due to work and family commitments, so I thought that today I would do a mega post all about my Christmas Eve Pamper Evening!

Every Christmas Eve I like to have a relaxing night in and prepare myself for the excitement and events of Christmas Day. Some people like to go out for a few drinks on Christmas Eve but I think it’s the perfect time to relax and feel that drinking is more of a Christmas day/NYE kinda thing!

The first thing I do at the start of the evening is light one of my favourite Christmas  candles EVER. Yankee Candle’s Christmas Eve, which is quite fitting to be honest! I light this in the living room because thats where I will be spending most of my time this evening and the smell spreads throughout the house.

I then run a bath and pop in a christmassy Lush bath bomb, this year I’m using the Peeping Santa Bubble Bar. When my bath is running I like to cleanse my face with the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, just to get rid of all the makeup and dirt. Once my bath is ready I get in and normally will read a book or magazine just to wind down and chill. Whilst in the bath I usually do a face mask, one of my favourites is the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Pore Minimising Mask. You can leave this on for a really long time so its perfect for the bath.

After my bath I put on some christmassy pjs and make myself a hot drink, now this is where I have to make the decision of either a gingerbread latte or a hot chocolate. In all honesty gingerbread lattes normally win.I then get comfy on the sofa with my drink, a warm blanket and some chocolates.

One of my Christmas Eve traditions is to watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special, so this is what I do next. Now I may have already watched this episode multiples times this month  but it’s so good and funny that I could watch it 1000 times and not get bored!

Once Gavin and Stacey has finished I make myself a hot water bottle and make my way upstairs, I tuck the hottie into my bed to warm it up and then move on to what I to call my “heavy duty skincare routine”.

Having already cleansed and done a face mask I take the Clinque Clarifying Moisture Lotion and sweep it over my face with a cotton pad. Next I apply some of the Balance Me Congested Skin Serum which I received in one of my birch boxes this year. I then pop on a thick layer of The Body Shop Vitamin E Sleeping Moisture Mask, french plait my hair and get into my now very toasty and warm bed and try to get an early nights sleep!

Once again I am so upset at how badly my 12 days of blogmas turned out but in the new year  have some exciting posts coming up!

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!

12 Days of Blogmas – Skin Saviours

12 Days of Blogmas – Day One

When the temperature drops my skin always suffers and becomes super dry, I’ve tried so many creams and lotions to try and tackle it and thought I would share some of my favourites!

Dry Face

When my face starts to become dry I start using a thicker moisturiser but sometimes when that doesn’t even cut it I pull out the big guns and start using the Body Shop Vitamin E Sleeping Mask. It’s so simple to use and has amazing results! You just apply a generous layer to your face before going to bed and in the morning your skin feels and looks so much better, I like to use it 2-3 times a week when my skin is dry.

Dry Lips

The Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream is a lot of people’s holy grail lip balm and I am definitely one of them! You can apply it as much as you want and it keeps your lips soft and looking healthy. It makes lipstick so much easier to apply too! (I stupidly forgot to add it to the picture above but it will be included in an Instagram soon!)

Dry Body

My arms and legs get quite dry all year round and on of my favourite body lotions is the Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasure Restoring Lotion which I discovered in the summer. It smells so good and I saw results straight after the first use! The pump on the bottle is an added bonus too as it just makes it easier.

Dry Hands

Cold weather always makes my hands dry and the feel the full force of it when I’m out and about so I always make sure I have a hand cream nearby. The Crabtree and Evelyn ones not only smell nice but work miracles on dry hands.

Dry Hair

Now I know that technically this post is about skin saviours but dry hair is always a nuisance. The Aussie Winter Miracle Deep Treatment, like I said in my Winter Beauty Favourites, this is a literal miracle worker and keeps your hair shiny and soft throughout the whole of winter!

Winter Beauty Favourites

During the winter months there is a shift in my beauty routine, I often wear more makeup as I am not afraid of it melting off and my skin becomes slightly dryer so I add a few extra things to my skincare regime! So here are a few of my favourite things to use and wear in the winter months!

Violet Voss Holy Grail Palette

This palette has such a pretty variety of warm matte shades as well as a few shimmers which makes it perfect for everyday wear. The shadows blend like a dream and last all day! The shimmers are also perfect for Christmas party season!

NYX Glitters and Glitter Primer

Speaking of Christmas party season, glitter is a must! I feel like christmas is the time to go all out with glitter and the NYX face and body glitter is one of my favourite ones to use. The NYX glitter primer is the perfect partner as well as it helps to keep the glitter in place and helps for a flawless application!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen

Another NYX product that I love for winter is this matte berry shade. The Soft Matte Lip Cream formula is so comfortable on the lip and also lasts for a decent amount of time! It’s also so affordable and the other colours in the range are just as beautiful.

Polaar Lapland Cream

In the winter months the cold weather can really take a toll on my skin so I like to change up my moisturiser for a thicker/heavier formula to help tack the dry patches. The Polaar Lapland Cream is something that I received in a Birchbox a few months ago and it is perfect for this problem. After just one use my skin was much softer and it smells amazing as well!

Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom Cologne

This is my absolute favourite winter scent! It has a warmth to it that makes it perfect for this time of year and can be worn on a daily basis as well as on nights out or to parties!

Aussie Winter Miracle 3 Minute Miracle

This hair treatment really does work miracles! It can be used alongside the shampoo and conditioner from the same range but I often use it with other shampoos and conditioners from Aussie. First things first this product smells so good and the scent stays in your hair once its dry as well! Secondly it actually works! My hair can become quite dry and brittle when the temperature drops but using this 1-2 times a week helps it stay shiny and healthy! The cute packaging is an added bonus too, with some promotional bottles coming with a mini woolly hat!
